SC Villa beat title rivals Vipers 1-0 to tighten their grip on the top of the Uganda Premier League.
Charles Bbaale scored the all important goal as Villa got one over their rivals at Wankulukuku.
Bbaale headed in past Fabien Mutombora after neat work from crafty midfielder Travis Mutyaba few minutes after the half-hour mark.
The Venoms huffed and puffed, but couldn’t get a leveller on the day.
Karim Ndugwa headed onto the crossbar after he was set by Martin Kizza as Vipers searched for an equaliser.
Meddie Kibirige, in Villa goal, was busy and outstanding as he kept out attempts from Abubakar Lawal, Bright Anukani, Karim Watambala and Siraje Sentamu.
Vipers leave Wankulukuku with more to worry about including defender Livingston Mulondo who was rushed to hospital after head collision with Mutyaba.
The win sees Villa remain atop with 46 points, still two above KCCA who beat Gaddafi at Kakindu.
Vipers remain third but, with 34 points, slip seven points below Villa who have played three games more on them.
This, is the first league loss for Vipers under new coach Alex Isabirye but with a couple of games in hand, he will remain confident about his title chances.
This is a big step and a huge statement of intent for Villa who are chasing their first league crown since 2004.
And it’s a good reaction after Jackson Magera after his Jogoos lost 4-1 at Lugogo against KCCA.
What Next – SC Villa visit Maroons on April 2 while Vipers meet Gaddafi on April 2 as well at Kitende.
